I’ve got three sugars in my tea…time to see if Moffat really has the balls to ruin Doctor Who.

moffat and misogyny

don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying he isn’t, I haven’t done my research, so I can’t categorically say he isn’t.

But at least some of the arguments I’ve seen recently land in “Clara didn’t respond like a woman would if a man turned up at her door” etc

but you’re forgetting…he’s not a man. He’s the Doctor. It’s been well-documented that there is something different about him. Something that people can sense. His leadership, his confidence. People act oddly around him, not like they normally would. There’s something curious about him.

And also, Clara is not like most women.

She’s too trusting, she’s far too adventurous for her own good, she’s incredibly flirty. And Moffat is not saying that she is an example of all women. Nor the “optimal woman”. (A bullshit concept)

At a push, if he’s saying anything, he’s saying that the sort of people who end up being companions are pretty fucked up folks. Not classic models of people. So when they do something, he’s not saying that it’s normal, commendable, or any other ble. Just that this character did it.

NOTE: I am not saying he’s not sexist. I’m not saying he is. I’m just arguing against this particular point I’ve seen thrown around.

love to you tumblr, don’t go crazy now.
